Alignment in max...

Hi Smile

Here's my question :
I have an object that I would like to align, but I don't know how to do that...A little pic to explain :

I want to align the green object according to the edges of the tube, so that the red edges will correspond to the tube and there will be no hole...
Well I don't know exactly how to say that so here's another pic :

As you can see there's no link between the two objects... except the orientation I want they have... And I don't know how to center the object too because some of the polygons are larger on a side, the "center" is more on the right (2nd pic)...

I hope you've understand, I need help ! Embarassed
Thx in advance, KW

Looking at that, i would usually just target weld the vertices. I wouldnt know how to align it like you want it.

P.s i saw a section of this track over at RTT did i not???

the pics over there look amazing!

Hi again ^^
Yes I've sent some pics on the RVTT forum... Wait a little more and it'll be finished Razz
Here's the solution I've chose to tackle the problem Rolling Eyes
Just select the object and chose vertex editing, then turn on 3D vertex and polygon/edge snap, select the vertex and drag it onto the surface/edge you want it to be... Wink
It takes some time but the result is pretty good...

Anyway, if someone know a better way to do that please post it Very Happy

Thx again !

another way to bring two (or more) vertexes close together is to select them and use the scale tool. This will pull the vertexes towards their average center. I like this method because it feels a lot like sewing.

Also it is useful if you want to keep sub object elements separate but still bring the vertexes to the same point. Of course you would just weld them and then break them apart later.

By the way the method I've used can be useful to do that too by turning on the 3D vertex snaps tool only Wink

salut kw,
dont forget that by the use of the snap toggle button you can "align" a vertex not only to another vertex but to many important points of an object. you can costumize the snap tool by right clicking the snap button.
